LDM MAIN OFFICE IN ITALY - FLORENCE
Subjects >> Political Science & Int.Studies >> Political Science & International Studies

(All courses are taught in English)

A field of study which naturally and necessarily incorporates international aspects, political science is the branch of the social sciences through which political behavior and systems, as well as politics in a broad sense, are theorized, described, analyzed, and predicted for the understanding and the consequent betterment of the global community.

At the core of many of the world's problems today is globalization, which, although its benefits are numerous, also produces many conflicts because of integration and the lowering of barriers, which some view as threatening. Therefore, special attention is given to all aspects of the growing global community, beginning with the increasingly interdependent economy, passing through the many effects brought to and the many challenges posed by Italy as both advocate for and a protester against European integration, and ending at solutions for the maintenance of peace. Specifically keeping the elements of business and government in mind, the relationships between the European Union, the United States and Italy are explored in detail. As well as a great focus on international organizations and on the 20th century histories and political systems of Europe and Italy, there is an extensive emphasis on international relations, laws and politics as they shape the situations of such areas as the Middle East. Human rights and political philosophy as developed from Socrates through Macchiavelli to the present day are introduced as a portal to future studies, which aim at the improvement of the world on both micro- and macro-level scales. Finally, as should be the goal of all studies of political science and the international atmosphere, peace is examined and sought through careful analysis and in the knowledge of all its many movements, especially in the fight against such powerful threats as terrorism.
